After a 63-60 win last night against Minnesota, Wisconsin is now 3-0 in the Big Ten. Big Ten wins are really important this time of year, and every win helps your NCAA resume. Here is how Wisconsin stands in the Bracketology updates.
ESPN Bracketology
As of December 27, Joe Lunardi of ESPN has Wisconsin as a five seed. They would take on the 12 seed Florida Atlantic in the Midwest region. The four seed in that region would be Duke as a potential Round of 32 battle.
The one seed Lunardi has is Kansas. It would be quite the re-match after Kansas won a 70-69 thriller in the semi-finals of the Battle for Atlantis in November,
FOX Sports Bracketology
Fox Sports Bracketologist Mike DeCourcy indicated yesterday afternoon he has Wisconsin as a five seed as well. They are in the Midwest region taking on 12 seed College of Charleston. The four seed in that regional is Arkansas. The number one seed again is Kansas.
CBS Sports Bracketology
Jerry Palm is the CBS Sports Bracketologist. As of December 20, Palm has Wisconsin as a four seed. They would take on 13 seed Oral Roberts, who almost made the elite eight a few years ago. Ironically, Palm has Marquette as the five seed. That would have to be one of better second round match-ups if that were to happen.
The one seed is Houston as Palm has Wisconsin in the West region.
Initial Thoughts
It seems to be consistent across the board. I think right now the Badgers are anywhere from a four seed to a six seed. They have some impressive wins on their resume and the committee has been consistent with rewarding quality of wins.
I also think this is a border line second weekend team. I think the Badgers have the ability to make the second weekend and make life tough on a one seed. The did that to Kansas and had that game won until the final seconds.
We have also seen Wisconsin have scoring droughts against every team they have played. In Big Ten play and against mid-majors, they have had spurts where they struggle on offense. In my opinion, a mid-major can take advantage of that in the NCAA Tournament.
