Wisconsin had to get multiple players in the NCAA Basketball Transfer Portal. It was very obvious, and it had to happen fast. After getting a commitment from AJ Storr last night, Wisconsin has two solid wing players from the portal in Storr and Noah Reynolds from Wyoming. Yes, the Badgers still need a big man, but Greg Gard has done exactly what he needed to do so far in the portal.
NCAA Basketball Transfer Portal Movers: Who Is AJ Storr?
AJ Storr (#2) is a 6'6 wing transferring to Wisconsin from St. John's. He averaged 8.8 points in 21.1 minutes per game while shooting 40.4% from 3 during his freshman season

AJ Storr is a very talented player who spent his freshman year at St John’s. He’s a 6’6 guard who is a very good spot-up shooter. He has the ability to slash to the rim and is a great finisher at the rim. It’s something Wisconsin does not have on this team. He will be coming to the Badgers with three years of eligibility remaining.
In his freshman year for the Red Storm, Storr started 17 games and averaged 21 minutes a game. He chipped in almost nine points a game and shot 40% from three and 43% overall. He is also a 75% free throw shooter. He’s another three point weapon Wisconsin needs to compliment Connor Essegian.
What’s Next in the NCAA Basketball Transfer Portal?

I would not be surprised if Storr started next season and Max Klesmit came off the bench as the sixth man. I really like Max Klesmsit, and it’s clear he’s the leader of this team. But Storr has NBA potential and is a perfect fit for a shooting guard. Nothing is definitive yet, but that’s how I would see it playing out right now.
There’s still a huge need for a backup center. I am not sure on the scholarship situation, but I believe Wisconsin does not have any as of now. Regardless they still need to find a player to back up Steven Crowl that can play minutes similar to what Chris Vogt did in the 2021-2022 season.
Greg Gard deserves a to of credit for what he’s done in the NCAA Basketball Transfer Portal. He needed to get multiple players that could score, and he’s done exactly that. Storr and Wyoming transfer Noah Reynolds both have multiple years of eligibility remaining, so Gard has these players beyond next season.
I know there will be fans who still don’t like Greg Gard, but you have to respect and credit him for what he’s done to this point. I don’t think the Badgers are done yet, but on paper, this is a much deeper and better rotation than it was this past season. There’s still a way to go but kudos to Gard for not only getting the players he needed but getting two players in the NCAA Basketball Transfer Portal that should be immediate contributors.
