The Wisconsin basketball staff is still holding out hope for their prized 2024 target, Daniel Jacobsen, ahead of his scheduled commitment on Friday.
Jacobsen, a three-star center from New Hampshire, has narrowed his college decision to two schools. The Wisconsin Badgers and the Purdue Boilermakers will be the programs Jacobsen plans on choosing between. Wisconsin hopes to add to a strong class already consisting of Daniel Freitag and Jack Robison.
Wisconsin Basketball Still Holding Out Hope For 2024 Three-Star Daniel Jacobsen
Thus far in the 2024 recruiting cycle, Wisconsin has secured two solid commitments in Freitag and Robison. However, the Badgers failed to capture some of the top recruits in the class, such as Kon Kneuppel and Jackson McAndrew. Regardless, Wisconsin still has a chance to piece together a strong recruiting class despite some misses.
For Jacobsen, the talented center from New Hampshire, the recruiting process has been somewhat interesting. Jacobsen holds 11 scholarship offers and has visited three schools thus far, with Wisconsin being the most recent. Minnesota and Purdue have also hosted the center for visits earlier this year.
Minnesota and Purdue had been heavily linked to Jacobsen but appeared to lose their lead over time. The Wisconsin basketball staff has made the center a priority after struggling to land other big men in the 2024 recruiting class.
Coming in at 7-foot-3-inches, 235 pounds, the giant Jacobsen is one of the more raw prospects in the class. The center has excellent talent and ability down low but still needs to develop the nuances of his game. Jacobsen is developing a fantastic jump shot and has the potential to become an inside-out offensive threat.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Staff Hold Onto Daniel Jacobsen Before Purdue Swoops In?
While Wisconsin may have multiple projections stating they will land Jacobsen, the result could be very different. As stated previously, the center is expected to pick between the Wisconsin Badgers basketball program and the Purdue Boilermakers. Currently, Jacobsen holds five different crystal ball predictions to land with the Wisconsin basketball program.
Purdue, however, may not have room for the 7-foot-3-inch center, literally. The Boilermakers hold the 14th overall recruiting class in 2024 currently while still attempting to add more recruits. Purdue has four commitments in their class, including three-star center Raleigh Burgess from Ohio.
Wisconsin basketball has the advantage in terms of playing time, as they can offer more minutes to Jacobsen right off the bat. Jacobsen would also become an excellent fit for Wisconsin due to his ability to distribute the ball and command the paint. While the center certainly has the talent to be a Wisconsin Badger, his decision remains a question mark.
