While it is the offseason for the Wisconsin Badgers, it’s never the offseason for bracketology. The college basketball season just ended, but Joe Lunardi, bracketology analyst at ESPN, released his early 2023-2024 bracketology report this morning. This will be updated periodically throughout the summer until the season starts.
Joe Lunardi Bracketology 2023-2024: Where Does Wisconsin Land?
Today, Lunardi had the Badgers as a 7 seed in the East region. They would take on the 10-seed Oregon in Memphis. If the Badgers were to win that game, they would take on the second seed Arkansas or the 15 seed Radford. The one seed was Duke, who the Joe Lunardi bracketology article had as the overall number one seed.
I think this is a good seed currently for Wisconsin. I still think there is work to do overall on the roster, but they have done enough to make me think they should be in the NCAA Tournament if it started today. I really like the additions of St. John’s transfer AJ Storr and Wyoming transfer Noah Reynolds.
Joe Lunardi Bracketology 2023-2024: Where Does the Rest of the Big Ten Stand?
The Joe Lunardi bracketology article had the Big Ten with nine tournament teams. That led all the conferences. However, there were several teams on the bubble.
Illinois and Indiana were noted as receiving last-four byes. Lunardi then had Michigan and Ohio State as last-four in teams. He also had Northwestern as a first four out and Iowa as a next four out.
It is still early, but I could see why the Joe Lunardi bracketology piece went down this route. Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan have lost a ton of production from this past years teams. Indiana has four starters to replace. Illinois has a ton of talent gone. Michigan lost two of their best players in Jett Howard and Hunter Dickinson. Iowa will also lose Kris Murray, Connor McCaffery, and Filip Rebraca.
I think Ohio State will be one of the best teams in the Big Ten next season if Brice Sensabaugh returns. I think their seeding is based on him leaving. They did add Minnesota transfer Jamison Battle as well. Northwestern could be under-seeded here, but that depends on if Chase Audige and Boo Buie go pro or return for another season.
