Kelly Sheffield, coach of the Wisconsin Badgers volleyball program, recently announced the signing of three players. Grace Egan and Grace Lopez are joining through the transfer portal whereas Aniya Warren recently committed to UW-Madison and will be an incoming freshman. Here’s what coach Sheffield had to say about the program’s newest opposite hitter.
Grace Lopez transferred to the Wisconsin Badgers from the Miami Hurricane
6’1″ left-handed hitting Grace Lopez is joining Wisconsin Badgers volleyball as a well established six rotation opposite hitter. She has received consecutive AVCA All-American Honorable Mentions as well as All-ACC First Team that is highlighted by averaging 3.54 kills per set last year, .67 blocks per set, and 2.29 digs per set.
Kelly Sheffield spoke highly of Grace Lopez
Following the official signing announcement of Grace Lopez, Kelly Sheffield spoke highlight of his new opposite hitter. The UW Badgers website indicated that Sheffield described her as followed: “Grace is a six-rotation lefty opposite, something we haven’t had in my time here. She is fearless and seems to play her best against the best teams. She hits well from either pin, has a nice top-spin and float serve, and defends her area of the court well. We’ll be able to run things fast with her, which is something I’m excited to do.”
Grace Lopez highlights
Throughout Grace Lopez’s career, she has had a few standout performances. Against Stanford this November she accumulated 27 kills in a match and 29.5 points. She additionally had an 11 block match in September, a 16 dig game against Georgia Tech, and eight aces during an August game this year.
