The Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball season was, in a word, disappointing. After missing the NCAA tournament, the Badgers made it to the semi-finals of the NIT tournament, allowing their young core to get some much-needed postseason experience. That experience, though, is not going to be enough to guarantee better results in 2023. It will take some incoming freshman and transfer portal players to help the team get back to contention in the Big Ten. One major lift was given to the team when senior big man Tyler Wahl decided to come back for his last year of eligibility. He joined Mike Heller of 97.3 The Game to discuss his decision last Friday.
Wisconsin Badgers Center Tyler Wahl Opens Up About His Decision to Come Back

Mike Heller started the interview by asking Wahl how much of a role his family played in his decision to return to Wisconsin for one more season”
“After the season, it was nice because I got to get some alone time, but they were always there for me. Not necessarily swaying me in one direction or another, but giving me options and giving me good communication of what’s really going on. So it was nice for them to be that group, a group that I can bounce ideas off of, but at the end of the day they wanted me to make the best decision for myself. At the end of the day, I think I made the right decision.”
Heller then asked Wahl how the disappointing end of the 2022-23 influenced his decision to come back to Wisconsin for a fifth year:
“Yeah, I think that was one of the main things that brought me back. Because this group of guys is really good. The wins may not have shown up in the win column, but every single game we were right there. Some things didn’t go our way, but we were maybe a point or two short of coming out on top of a few big games.”
Wahl continued to say that a disappointing season is not the way he wanted to leave Wisconsin. He is excited to come back and help the team have a much improved 2023-24 season.
