The Wisconsin Badgers defense could make things interesting against the #4 Alabama Crimson Tide. Wisconsin will need to make things ugly front against Alabama if they want to have a chance at pulling the upset at home this weekend.
In the first two games of the season, the Badgers gave up 14 points against the Western Michigan Broncos and only 13 points against South Dakota. Wisconsin’s defense is going to be facing a different kind of challenge against the Crimson Tide offense on Saturday.
PFF Questions The Wisconsin Badgers Secondary Against Jalen Milroe and the Alabama Crimson Tide Wide Receivers
The Alabama Crimson Tide over the years have had talented wide receivers come through the program and this year is no different. Pro Football Focus’s Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman previewed the game between Alabama and Wisconsin.
When the Badgers are on defense in this matchup, they want to know how Jalen Milroe and the wide receivers are against Wisconsin’s secondary. Pro Football Focus said:
“Wisconsin blitzes at about an average rate, its 37.5% blitz rate is tied for 57th in the country this season. However, it does have the secondary that can hold up if Luke Fickell decides to send the house more against Milroe. The Badgers entered the year with one of my 10 best secondaries in the country thanks to stars like safety Hunter Wohler and cornerback Ricardo Hallman. “
Blitzing in this game could be a strength for the Badgers. Jalen Milroe is a good quarterback, but he could make his mistakes for the Crimson Tide. Milroe could be a factor in the ground game but was not last week against the USF Bulls.
Freshman Wide Receiver Ryan Williams Could Be a Problem To Cover
The biggest issue for the Wisconsin Badgers defense this weekend against the Alabama Crimson Tide will be facing freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams. He has caught six passes for 207 yards receiving and three touchdowns, along with averaging 34.5 yards per catch.
Williams is the best wide receiver on Alabama’s roster by a mile. He is not only going to be a problem for the Badgers, but he is going to cause problems when SEC play arrives. If Wisconsin lets Ryan Williams free, it will be a long day for Wisconsin’s defense.
