Recently the Wisconsin Badgers’ staff surprised fans with the flip and eventual signing of high three-star 2026 offensive lineman Brady Bekkenhuis.
Since doing so, plenty has occurred with the 2026 class but the legend and value of Bekkenhuis has only grown. The Arlington (MA) native was previously a Boston College commitment and all signs pointed towards a continuation of his career in his home state. However, Wisconsin managed to change the plans after flipping Bekkenhuis just weeks after extending a scholarship.

The Wisconsin Badgers have not been afraid to move quickly when the talent is right and the Badgers’ staff felt Bekkenhuis was a player that needed to become a part of the program. Bekkenhuis is the 433rd ranked recruit in the 2026 class and holds a four-star rating from Rivals.
The flip of Bekkenhuis is multifaceted as the recruit is not your average offensive lineman. Offensive and defensive line coach Doug Hanlon took the time to speak to Wisconsin Sports Heroics about the value Bekkenhuis has brought to a small town in Massachusetts.
OL/DL Coach Doug Hanlon on Badgers’ Signee Brady Bekkenhuis: “Brady Put the Program and the Town Ahead of Himself”

When looking at the recruit from the outside, the punishing play and the massive frame are often what is seen first. However Hanlon argues there is more to the recruit, stating, “What most people think makes Brady a special recruit is his 6-foot-6, 290-pound frame but there’s so much more to Brady than what meets the eye.”
For the last three years straight, and perhaps more, New England prep schools have tried mightily to pry Bekkenhuis away from Arlington.
Hanlon has witnessed the interest and stated, “Brady has been offered just as many opportunities to leave Arlington High School as he’s received offers to play college football. We took over a small public school program that was struggling to find it’s way – but we recognized early that we had one really big building block.”
The school has never had a ranked alumni according to Rivals in the history of the football program. Bekkenhuis is not only the first but also happens to be Big Ten Conference bound, which is no easy accomplishment.
What has made Brady Bekkenhuis Great?
Finding exposure and managing to separate yourself from other recruits in such a small environment is quite the task. Bekkenhuis did so and the town has certainly not missed out on what the recruit has accomplished.
“For three years Brady put the program and the town ahead of himself and that’s what makes Brady a special recruit,” stated Hanlon. The coach added, “In the process he became the heartbeat of a football program and a town on the way gained some national attention.”
When asked about why Bekkenhuis would put himself in such a position knowing the potential impact on his recruitment, Hanlon stated, “Despite all the offers from these schools Brady chose to stay at Arlington High School to play for his town and with his friends that he grew up with playing youth sports. That was important to him. By doing so he became a major piece in building our program into what it is today and what it will continue to be in the future.”
For the Wisconsin Badgers, signing Bekkenhuis goes far beyond the field as his loyalty, determination, and character are his best qualities. The talented offensive lineman will be carrying the weight of Arlington with him over to Madison as one of the primary faces of the 2026 recruiting class.
