It seems as if this is a good week for Wisconsin to fleece Minnesota. Earlier today, Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver Markus Allen decommitted from Minnesota and announced that he will return to the Badgers in 2023. For over a year, Wisconsin has been recruiting junior point guard Daniel Freitag, the number one junior basketball player in the state of Minnesota.

The Wisconsin Badgers Are Competing with Other Schools [and Football]
As Freitag is only a junior, he is in no rush to commit to any school yet. In fact, he has not committed to a single sport yet. In addition to offers from various colleges to play basketball, he is also getting offers to play football. When speaking to Dillon Graff of BadgersNotes, Freitag said: “I have not yet made a decision on which sport I will play; playing both is also in the conversation.”
Per Graff, Wisconsin and Freitag had to postpone his official visit. As mentioned, he is also a phenomenal football player and had commitments with his team. Freitag also told Graff: “Wisconsin was my very first offer, which I do not take lightly. They’ve also shown seriousness in how much they want me by not offering any other point guards.”
Other Schools to Extend Offers to Daniel Freitag
As mentioned, Freitag plays both basketball and football. Below is a list of the schools that have extended offers to him, and for what sport (per his Twitter page)
- Wisconsin: basketball
- Minnesota: basketball and football
- Iowa State: basketball
- Baylor: basketball
- Iowa: basketball
- Nebraska: basketball
- Virginia: basketball
- Kansas State: basketball and football
Freitag has, however, been coming to Wisconsin Badgers basketball camps:

If the Badgers are able to lure him to Wisconsin, whether as a basketball player or a football player, it would be a huge win for either program.
