The Wisconsin Badgers are after a Wisconsin native for the Badger football program. They recently extended an offer to Erik Schmidt, a class of 2025 kicker/punter hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Schmidt is a promising athlete standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 185 pounds.
He has already shown remarkable skill and potential in his kicking abilities, and should be a great fit for the pipeline to the Badgers. With two more years of high school football remaining, Schmidt has the opportunity to further refine his craft before potentially making the leap to the collegiate level.
Award Winning Kicker for the Wisconsin Badgers Football Pipeline
Wisconsin’s offer to Schmidt adds to his growing list of accolades, as he has already received three Division 1 offers. The Badgers are joined by prominent programs like Michigan and Notre Dame in recognizing Schmidt’s talents. Notably, being a Wisconsin native, Schmidt may be inclined to consider joining his home state program when he ultimately makes his decision for the class of 2025.
His kicking prowess has shown up in the awards that he has accumulated in high school so far. He was named the 2021 2nd team All-Conference Kicker, the 2022 Division 1 1st team All-Conference Kicker and Punter, the 2022 Division 1 All-Region Kicker, and the 2022 All-State Kicker Honorable Mention.
There have been rumblings of Erik Schmidt being in contact with Wisconsin, Michigan, and Notre Dame. Schmidt has mentioned that he has texted with other teams, but has been focused on those three schools as the main schools. He has visited each school and was able to meet the coaches involved in person.
With Nathaniel Vakos being added this past year to handle the field goal duties, it’s unclear if Badgers Football views Schmidt as a punter, or if he will be part of the field goal game plan moving forward.
