Nyzier Fourqurean, ranked as a three-star transfer according to 247 Sports, is a transfer from Grand Valley State University. The Division II program reached the second round of the NCAA Playoffs last year, finishing with a 12-1 record. After completing a perfect regular season, the Lakers lost for the second straight year against Ferris State to end their season. Following the completion of the season, Fourqurean entered the transfer portal with two years of eligibility.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Lands Veteran All-American Nyzier Fourqurean
The talented defensive back comes in at 6-foot-1-inches, 185-pounds, from the great state of Ohio. Fourqurean entered the transfer portal this past season after earning a job as a starting defensive back. The recruit recorded 13 total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass breakup a year ago during his Freshman season. The defensive back appeared in all 13 games for the Lakers mainly as a reserve player.
This past season, Fourqurean solidified himself as a true starter with 37 total tackles, four interceptions, and 18 pass defenses. The defensive back also recorded three tackles for loss and one fumble recovery. Following his successful season and another post-season loss, Fourqurean entered the transfer portal on May 3rd.
It only took the defensive back four days to find his new Division I home after he announced his intentions to join the Vanderbilt Commodores. Following his verbal commitment, plenty of programs continued to recruit the talented individual. Among those programs was the Wisconsin Badgers, who have now flipped the Vanderbilt commitment. Fourqurean was silent on Social Media throughout his recruitment, and now his commitment comes out of nowhere for Badger fans.
What Does Nyzier Fourqurean Add To The Wisconsin Badgers?
For many fans, adding Division II and Junior College recruits is not something that the Badgers are used to. However, coach Luke Fickell has been committed to developing the most competitive program he possibly can. In order to do so, the staff has to look in places where many other programs will not be. In the case of Fourqurean, after receiving almost no recruiting attention out of high school, the defensive back proved his playing ability at the Division II level.
Fourqurean is a speedy defensive back with an eye for the ball in-coverage. Fourqurean has excellent field vision which often allows him to make plays on the ball that other players cannot get to. One of his best abilities is his body control. Fourqurean is able to move his body and utilize it to prevent the offense from making a play. It is truly a sight to see when Fourqurean battles for balls in the air and boxes out receivers for the 50-50 throws.
For the Wisconsin Badgers, Fourqurean is the exact player that Luke Fickell had been looking for. The Badgers were quite busy in the transfer portal looking for a versatile defensive back. Fickell wanted a dynamic player with the ability to play over top and in the slot. The Badgers feel that Fourqurean offers them the best growth at that position, which could provide a pleasant boost for the team.
