The Wisconsin Badgers found themselves dealing with an unexpected coaching vacancy. Tight ends coach Gino Guidugli left to be the quarterback coach at Notre Dame. Guidugli was a key part in getting a couple of massive tight-end recruits and had coached with Luke Fickell in the past. The team officially announced their new tight ends coach, Nate Letton.

Wisconsin Badgers Hire New Tight Ends Coach
The Badgers decided to hire from within. Letton was already on the staff as an offensive quality control coach and Fickell decided to promote him. He previously worked with Fickell in Cincinnati as a graduate assistant for the offensive line. Letton was named in 247Sports’ 30 Under 30 list which highlights college football’s top assistants. “I’m excited to be at Wisconsin and help carry on the tradition of success at this program,” Letton said in a statement. He joins an already stacked coaching staff who are trying to make Wisconsin into a college football powerhouse.

Will The Badgers Feel The Loss Of Guidugli?
Guidugli was already key in getting a couple of tight-end recruits. They might reconsider but even if they do, the impact of Guidugli leaving will most likely be minimal. Guidugli was not in the program long enough. Letton should be able to come in and establish himself and not have to live in the shadow of the previous guy. Fickell clearly trusts him and his coaching tree has had success in the past.
It is always nice to see a hire from within. Letton seems like a very deserving candidate and fans will look forward to seeing what the tight ends can do on the field when they take the field this spring.
