The Wisconsin Badgers are 5-5 this season after losing to the #1 Oregon Ducks by a final score of 16-13 on Saturday night. Wisconsin had a chance to upset Oregon, but poor quarterback play by Braedyn Locke doomed them once again.
He was also horrendous against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Head coach Luke Fickell is in danger of not making a bowl game with the Badgers in his second season. On Sunday night, he decided to fire offensive coordinator Phil Longo instead of benching quarterback Braedyn Locke.
Wisconsin Badgers Head Coach Luke Fickell Announces Who The Offensive Coordinator Will Be Moving Forward
Wisconsin Badgers head coach Luke Fickell met with the media on Monday. He was asked about who will take over the play-calling duties for the remainder of the 2024 college football season. Fickell said to Evan Flood of 247sports:
“Why does it matter? I don’t think it’s really important. I guess it gives you the ability to point the finger at someone.”
This was a very bold statement by the Badgers head coach. He wants to keep it confidential for the remainder of the 2024 season who will be calling the plays. Luke Fickell has been under fire from the Badgers fanbase as of late.

From that response he was forced to fire him. I just wonder what happens if both starting quarterbacks do not get hurt in back to back seasons? They will need to make a splash with the next hire to keep recruits and I do believe they need to keep the offense evolving.

There are going to be a lot of Wisconsin Badgers fans who will Luke Fickell fired at the end of the season. With Braedyn Locke not being benched, they are going to have to find a quarterback in the transfer portal if Mabrey Mettauer is not ready to take over next year. Wisconsin will also have to get the offensive coordinator replacement for Phil Longo right or they will be looking for a new head coach after the 2025 college football season.
