The first Wisconsin Badgers post-season transfer entry has been announced as a notable linebacker will leave the program shortly.
Leon Lowery Jr, a former standout for Syracuse, has one season remaining eligibility wise after playing with Wisconsin for just the 2024 campaign. Lowery Jr admittedly did not have a great season within the new defensive scheme as his production was cut in half following the transfer. The linebacker will now hit the portal and likely will become a hot commodity given when has done in the past on the football field.
Lowery Jr finished the season with 29 total tackles and one sack after recording 46 tackles and 3.5 sacks during the 2023 season. The linebacker took a major step-back after joining Wisconsin as a potential defensive disruptor for the Badgers. The 2023 season was easily the best season Lowery Jr has had as a collegiate linebacker which added to his own personal disappointment in the result of the 2024 season.
The talented linebacker had by far his best game as a Wisconsin Badgers member against the Alabama Crimson Tide this season in the loss. Lowery Jr recorded five tackles and his lone sack of the season against arguably the toughest offensive unit Wisconsin faced all year.
I’ll be planning to enter the transfer portal with 1 year of eligibility left. Thank you wisconsin for everything.

The flashes and potential was certainly there for Lowery Jr, but the linebacker room as a whole was overall disappointing this season. The linebacker shifted schemes after joining the Wisconsin Badgers and struggled to make some adjustments necessary.
Lowery Jr thanked the Wisconsin Badgers program and fans for everything during his lone season, and will hit the transfer portal in a matter of days upon his paperwork being finalized.
How Does the Transfer of Leon Lowery Jr Impact the Wisconsin Badgers?
Unfortunately for the Wisconsin Badgers, Leon Lowery Jr was a likely domino that would fall given the season he had and the potential success he can find elsewhere.
The Wisconsin Badgers defense was overall underwhelming this season and the lack of pressure that was created hurt the defense in the end. Players like Lowery Jr benefitted from playing for a team (Syracuse) where multiple players could make it home on a given play. Without pressure being created elsewhere, Lowery Jr in turn struggled to create pressure of his own against Big Ten Conference offenses.
Lowery Jr began his playing career as a 4-3 linebacker and has struggled to adjust to different styles of play and pressure on the field. The talented linebacker will surely find success elsewhere moving forward, and likely will look to join an attacking 4-3 defense in the future.
