Former Wisconsin Badgers star big man Frank Kaminsky is not on an NBA roster at the moment, but that doesn’t mean he’s not being active in the sport.
In fact, he is playing for something more important, as he is donning the country’s colors in the 2024 USA Men’s AmeriCup Qualifying Team. Last Sunday, Kaminsky played a big role in the Americans’ 97-74 win over Bahamas at Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington.

The 31-year-old Kaminsky scored 14 rebounds, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. He made five of his seven attempts from the field and even hit a 3-pointer while finishing with an efficiency of 23, per FIBA’s website.
Meanwhile, former LSU Tigers star Javonte Smart had 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting to lead USA Basketball which also defeated Puerto Rico last Friday. Against Puerto Rico, Kaminsky put up 10 points with three assists and a pair of steals in just 15 minutes of floor duty.
“It’s been really good so far,” Kaminsky said about his USA Basketball experience following the win over Puerto Rico (via Cameron Kennedy of USAB.com). “Obviously, it’s tough. A lot of us haven’t played together, and it’s a short amount of time to learn everything we need to learn.”
The Americans will wait until February to play their next game which will feature rematches against Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.
While he’s seemingly enjoying his stint representing the country, Kaminsky will aways be thought of first as a Wisconsin Badgers legend. He played for the Badgers from the 2011-12 season to the 2014-15 campaign. In his last two seasons with Wisconsin, he averaged 16.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks while shooting 53.9 percent from the floor.
