Wisconsin Badgers OC Jeff Grimes Expresses Confidence on New QB Billy Edwards Jr. Ahead of His 2025 Launch – ‘He’s Got All the Intangibles You’d Be Looking For’

Wisconsin Badgers‘ quarterback situation got a little messy after the change in offensive coordinator but they are moving on now and the new hire Jeff Grimes is feeling positive about the QBs that remained, especially Billy Edwards Jr.

Phil Longo was fired after the 2024 season and some recruits from the transfer portal decided to withdraw their commitment to the team. Not Edwards Jr. who transferred to the team from Maryland Terrapins.

The 6’4 junior has plenty of experience before coming to Wisconsin, having played multiple seasons for Terrapins and Wake Forest Demon Deacons in 2021.

He’s been to the big state, too, as he played at the 2023 Music City Bowl where he won the Most Valuable Player award.

Edwards Jr. deciding to stay is a huge boost as the team gained an upper classman after the departure of Tyler Van Dyke. Left on the roster are first and second-year quarterbacks.

He is an efficient QB that fans would love to have. His pass efficiency rating while with Terrapins was at 130.12, seven points higher than the Badgers QBs numbers.

Wisconsin Badgers got a stud according to Jeff Grimes

Both Grimes and Edwards Jr. are new to the team but in a short time they are together, they are already trusting of each other’s capability.

Grimes said Edwards Jr. is the right man to lead the team.

“I saw a guy that had toughness, that was able to stand in there and take a lot of hits and not impact how he played the game,” Grimes said of Edwards as quoted by Badgers Notes.

“He threw a lot of balls with people right in his face, and he’s letting it go. None of that impacted him. I thought he had arm talent. I thought he had good athletic ability. I like his size.

Talent is given but he is more impressed with the intangibles.

“It was a combination of all those things at first. As I got to know him, I recognized that he’s got all the intangibles you’d be looking for. He’s smart, he’s competitive, and he’s really driven to be great.”
