Wisconsin Badgers basketball ended 2024 on a good note after recording two straight victories and key to that is their big men Nolan Winter and senior Steven Crowl.
The Badgers, who suffered three straight defeats this month that stained their used to be immaculate record, won against the Butler and Detroit Mercy to go 10-3 in the Big Ten.
Winter and Crowl stepped up big time in those games. They were the top two scorers against Butler with 20 and 18, respectively. They took the lead again against Detroit with 18 and 15.
Seven footer Crowl is already in his senior year but head coach Greg Gard thinks there is more to come the big man. In fact, he thinks the best is yet to come for the player.
Steve is, you know, I think the last two games has done a better job of that being more aggressive and and intentional with it and no one I think is just. I used a phrase earlier this week that he’s just he just been hatched so to speak so he’s so young in terms of his where he can be and what he can do.
Although Gard thinks the talent is already there for his senior big man, he thinks he still need to be pushed and that is what they are here for.
I mean, you see that size and the skill level that he has and the athleticism he has and he has a motor you know he I don’t know if he realizes how impactful and how good he can be and it’s our job to help you keep pushing that bar.
What’s next for Wisconsin Badgers?
The Badgers had to work hard for those two wins and now, they got a lengthy rest.
A tougher test awaits them on January 4 though as next in their schedule the 9-3 Iowa Hawkeyes who are on a streak of their own after winning their last two.
They last met each other on February 17 where the Hawkeyes pulled off the 88-86 nailbiting win.
They will then meet the Rutgers who like them has two-game winning streak.
