The Wisconsin Badgers are 10-3 in college basketball this season and they are 0-2 in BIG10 Conference play. At some point, Wisconsin will need to start stacking up wins in conference play. One of the star players for head coach Greg Gard this season is guard John Tonje.
Tonje has provided a different element to this Badgers offense. John Tonje is averaging 19.2 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 2.0 APG, along with shooting 45.5% from the field.
Wisconsin Badgers Head Coach Greg Gard Makes Critical Statement Of Guard John Tonje
The Badgers head coach spoke to the media on Monday about his star player. Greg Gard said about Tonje moving forward:
“We need him to continue to be more efficient. If this team’s going to really reach a high level. We have to have him at a high level, more consistently.”
In the last game for Wisconsin against Detroit Mercy, he only took six shots and scored nine points. John Tonje will need the ball more in his hands moving forward. Tonje has scored 15 or more points in a game eight times this season for the Wisconsin Badgers.
Iowa Hawkeyes Next Opponent
The next opponent for the Wisconsin Badgers will be against the Iowa Hawkeyes on January 3, 2025. Wisconsin will have some nice time off before then. Iowa is 1-1 in conference play this season and they are 9-3 overall. The Badgers will need to beat the Hawkeyes the next time they step out on the floor.
John Tonje needs to be the star player he has been this year for the Badgers moving forward. Wisconsin will also need other help elsewhere. This was a very interesting tactic from head coach Greg Gard by calling out his star player.
