A Chance For A Quality Win

Over the last few seasons, the Big East has solidified themselves as a top conference in college basketball. For example, in-state rival Marquette is looked at as a top team in country if you ask most folks.
While Providence isn’t as good as the Golden Eagles, the Friars are a quality opponent that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. They finished with a 21-12 record and fell to Kentucky in the first round. Long time head coach Ed Cooley is no longer at Providence after taking the head coaching position at Georgetown. They will now be led by former George Mason head coach Kim English.
It’s tough to travel half way across the country during season and the Dunkin Donuts Center is a tough place to play. I like the opportunity the Badgers have in this contest. They have a good chance to get an early season quality win for their NCAA Tournament resume. After missing the tournament last season, Greg Gard will have an experienced group in 2023.
In the only other battle between the Badgers and Friars, Providence won in Madison 63-58. That happened in 2021.
