The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team has been largely focused on the NIT as of late, however, that does not mean the recruiting has stopped. Back in 2018, the Wisconsin Badgers were high on four-star center Kadin Shedrick, but lost the battle to Virginia. Fast forward to 2023 and Greg Gard may get his wish as Shedrick has entered the NCAA transfer portal after Virginia has failed to meet expectations the last few years.
Former Wisconsin Badgers Recruit Could Land In Madison
All the way back in 2018, the Badgers met with four-star center Kadin Shedrick to offer the North Carolina native a scholarship. Shedrick was ranked as the 16th center in the class and the 68th player nationally as he earned 33 high-level offers. It did not take long for Shedrick to find his fit as he committed during his second official visit. The talented center visited Xavier, and upon stepping foot on the Virginia campus, he chose to enroll with the Cavaliers.

After failing to make it past the first round of the NCAA tournament, Shedrick has decided to leave the Cavaliers and search for a new home. The junior has been a part of a team that has struggled to find major success as of late. Shedrick had a difficult time during his stay at Virginia as well, averaging 17.6 minutes, six points, and 4.2 rebounds in 76 games. Shedrick started 34 games over the course of the last two years.
Despite the overall result of the season, Shedrick was one of the more productive players for the team when they needed a spark. Against Baylor, Shedrick recorded 17 points and two blocks in an 86-79 win over the Bears. The big center also dropped 16 points and three rebounds against Houston in a 69-61 loss to the Cougars. By far the best game of the season for Kadin Shedrick came against Furman when the center had 15 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks in their upset loss.

With hopes of greater success elsewhere, Shedrick will have to search for the perfect fit before he can decide on a school. Thus far, there have not been any teams connected to Shedrick, but given his history with the Wisconsin Badgers staff it seems likely they will reach out to the talented center. Wisconsin could certainly make use of the six foot ten center, especially given his incredible defensive ability.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball: Where Will Kadin Shedrick Go To Next?
While Kadin Shedrick may not be a serious offensive threat, he still has the ability to convert buckets when needed. The most valuable ability that Shedrick can provide a team is his lock-down defensive prowess. The center has four or more blocks five times this past season on his way to averaging 1.4 blocks per game. Shedrick struggles with fouls at times, averaging three a game and also being the victim of three foul outs this past season. Shedrick should certainly receive a large amount of attention from schools because of his potential with the right squad.
Given the difficulties that Virginia has experienced, it appears that Shedrick would like to attend a school ready to compete. Shedrick also did not maintain a starting job with the Cavaliers, and his search could come down to where the correct fit is. The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team could present a great opportunity for Shedrick to display his skills and work towards another successful year.

Someone should tell this author Virginia won the regular season ACC title, and advanced to the championship game in the conference tournament. At one point they were ranked #2 in the country. It was a far cry from a team that “failed to find success” as the misinformed author stipulates.
