The Wisconsin Badgers football team has started spring practices with the transfer portal still on their mind. After consideration and recruiting, Wisconsin offered former All-ACC Second Team defensive back Josh DeBerry a scholarship. DeBerry left Boston College for the transfer portal on March 23rd with hopes of finding better opportunities elsewhere.
Wisconsin Badgers Offer Transfer Defensive Back Josh DeBerry
Josh DeBerry is a former four-year participant for the Boston College Eagles and a three-year starter. DeBerry has spent the last three seasons as the primary nickel back for the Eagles. This past season, the talented defensive back started all ten games he played in, recording 50 total tackles and an interception. DeBerry also recorded 14 solo tackles in the wins over NC State and Louisville.
The Boston College Eagles struggled this year, finishing with a 3-9 record and losing a significant number of players to the transfer portal. Another Boston College transfer, Jason Maitre, found his way onto the Badgers after leaving the Eagles to finish out his collegiate career. Maitre is already finding success with Wisconsin, and wasted no time trying to recruit his former teammate to Madison following his scholarship offer. The talented defensive back went to Twitter to subtly suggest that Josh DeBerry should follow in his footsteps.

Thus far, DeBerry has announced four scholarship offers since entering the portal as a graduate transfer. Coastal Carolina, Arkansas, and Texas A&M have joined Wisconsin after recently offering the transfer a scholarship. It is still too early in the process for the transfer to really know where he will be going. With practices under way, some teams will come after DeBerry in the coming days when they realize they need help.
Like his fellow Eagles transfer Maitre, Josh DeBerry is a hard-hitting defensive back with the ability to play zone or man coverage depending on what the offense is showing. DeBerry also has great speed and his pursuit makes it difficult for any ball carrier to get past him. He also has displayed excellent strength and awareness on the field. The question is what role the Wisconsin staff currently sees DeBerry filling for the team, as he primarily played nickel back for the Eagles.
Can The Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Land Another Eagles Transfer?
While Wisconsin may already have quite a deep secondary, adding another incredibly experienced veteran could be a huge boost for a team with championships on their minds. Adding more veterans to an already experienced team could help propel the Badgers forward next season due to their influx of talent. Wisconsin has already landed one Boston College transfer in Jason Maitre, but now the Badgers could potentially add DeBerry before it is too late.

With practice already under way, DeBerry will likely move fast in the coming weeks so he can join another program before they move too far into their season. Clearly, three scholarship offers will not be the end of the road for the talented defensive back either. Wisconsin will have to work hard to land yet another transfer before the upcoming season begins.
