The Wisconsin Badgers football staff has been working hard to land all of their recruits. In the nature of the sport, other teams will land once touted Wisconsin targets and the Badgers will steal recruits from other programs. The latest crystal ball prediction for 2024 three-star receiver Jaylan Hornsby suggests he may not become a Badger after all. Perhaps Wisconsin will have more work ahead of them to land the star receiver.
Wisconsin Badgers: Jaylan Hornsby Receives PSU Crystal Ball
Back in January, the Wisconsin Badgers staff met with Jaylan Hornsby to offer the New Jersey native a scholarship. The receiver currently ranks as the 66th overall player at his position and the 11th player in New Jersey. The in-state Rutgers Scarlet Knights and coach Greg Schiano have been heavily recruiting Hornsby since he made his first appearance in the 2024 recruiting rankings a year ago.
Another team that has been pushing hard to land the recruit has been the Penn State Nittany Lions. Penn State was the third team to offer Hornsby, behind the Temple Owls and UConn Huskies. Since receiving a scholarship offer from coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions, Hornsby has made his way to campus twice with plans for a third visit. Hornsby has also been active with Rutgers as of late, setting an official visit for June and making his fourth appearance on campus already.
After another successful season, Hornsby has been active in his recruiting process as he begins to narrow down his choices. The recent crystal ball prediction for Hornsby to go to Penn State comes after his recent visit on April 7th. Hornsby had the chance to meet with the new Nittany Lions coach Marques Hagans and discuss the outlook for the program. Penn State has reportedly been the program to beat as the recruiting for the receiver begins to heat up.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Face Tough Road to Land Talented Receiver
At this point in time, it seems very unlikely that the Badgers will be able to land Hornsby after his recent visits. Not only has Penn State received a crystal ball prediction, but Rutgers and Texas A&M have been intensely recruiting as well. The Badgers have fallen far behind in the race for the receiver, but it may not be over just yet.
Wisconsin has still yet to bring the receiver on campus for a visit, which could potentially change things when he gets the chance to meet the entire staff. One interesting piece of information, however, is that coach Colin Hitschler was the coach who offered Hornsby his scholarship. Hornsby lists himself as an athlete, since he also plays linebacker and safety on defense. Since a defensive coach offered the scholarship, it seems unlikely that the Badgers are considering Hornsby to play receiver.
While the individual giving the scholarship may change things, Hornsby still has not met the entire staff yet. Upon reaching campus, many feelings and emotions about the university could potentially change. While the Wisconsin Badgers may still have a chance, it seems unlikely at this time given the direction the receiver has been going in his recruitment.
