The Wisconsin Badgers football staff has added another commitment to their 2024 recruiting class with a three-star corner back announcing his decision to join Wisconsin.
Vernon Woodward, a 2024 three-star corner back from Florida, was offered a scholarship by coach Paul Haynes in April following an in-person evaluation. Woodward has since been very high on the Badgers, and after completing his official visit on June 2nd, the recruit made his decision. Woodward is the 74th overall corner back in the 2024 class and will bring a different level of intensity to the Badgers.
Wisconsin Football: Three-Star Vernon Woodward Announces His Commitment
Wisconsin football has barely been able to break their way into the month and already the commitments are flooding in. Between the Twitter “Bat Signals” and crystal ball predictions, there will be plenty of rumors and commitments flying around this month. In the case of Woodward, the recruit had kept his process rather silent, but upon reaching Madison it became evident that he had found his new home.
Woodward, a 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound corner back from Florida is one of the more underrated defensive backs in the 2024 class. This past season, Woodward finished with 57 total tackles, three forced fumbles, and two pass break-ups. Shortly after concluding his Junior season with Orange City University, Woodward announced he would transfer to Winter Park for his Senior year of high school. Woodward dominated in zone coverage and bullied receivers in press as well.

The defensive back has a distinct style of play that involves taking on receivers physically. Woodward does not shy away from contact and has the hitting power of a linebacker. Woodward punishes his opponents and uses his strength to make exceptional plays on the ball as well. Last April, coach Paul Haynes got the chance to meet with Woodward after conducting an in-person evaluation. It did not take long before Haynes offered the recruit a scholarship.
According to 247 Sports, Woodward has only booked one other official visit, which is with Illinois on June 9th. However, Woodward will not need that visit any longer after announcing his commitment to the Badgers via Twitter.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Trending Positively During Month Of June
The month of June could prove to be the biggest turning point for the Badgers under coach Luke Fickell. This June, nearly every top recruiting target for the Badgers in the 2024 class will step foot on campus in Madison. This month will prove to be extremely difficult for the staff as they attempt to impress and persuade a handful of individuals. Less than four full days have passed this month, and Wisconsin is already putting themselves in a better position.
While landing recruits are amazing and all, one of the biggest keys to this month for coach Fickell and staff is making good impressions with every recruit. Regardless of the recruiting status of each individual, being able to show recruits what Madison is like and what the culture of the team is like can help establish the mindset that Fickell is after. Fickell wants to create a team that is dedicated to winning games, and the best way to do that is by bringing in players who emulate his passion.
In the case of Vernon Woodward, the Wisconsin Badgers football staff certainly got the man they were looking for. The fast, strong, and aggressive nature of Woodward is the type of football that Wisconsin wants to play this upcoming season.
