The Wisconsin Badgers football staff has been in close contact with a certain 2024 recruit following his de-commitment from the Stanford Cardinal. Three-star Michigan native Jamir Benjamin has left Stanford and reopened his recruitment in a sudden move. Benjamin had been committed to Stanford since November 22nd and appeared to have his sights set, but now the corner back will look for a new home.
Wisconsin Badgers Football: Jamir Benjamin Reopens Recruitment
Jamir Benjamin is a talented 2024 three-star recruit from West Bloomfield, Michigan. Benjamin had 27 offers at the time of his commitment to Stanford, and now his recruitment is wide open once again. Benjamin recently made a visit to Stanford last week and left without being convinced that is where he wants to spend his future.
The corner back has been quite the busy recruit in the past, making handfuls of visits. Benjamin has visited in-state Michigan State and Northwestern three times each. Benjamin has also made two visits to Stanford, and one visit to Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and Pittsburgh.
The talented recruit has yet to step foot on the Wisconsin campus, but that can certainly change in the near future. According to 247 Sports, Benjamin currently ranks as the ninth overall recruit in Michigan and the 27th corner back overall. Wisconsin could begin to seriously pursue Benjamin in the near future given his location and open recruitment. Benjamin was still being recruited heavily by Michigan State and Pittsburgh while he was a Stanford commit.
In a short interview with Allen Trieu of 247 Sports, Benjamin noted that the academic prestige and opportunities appeal to him most. Benjamin also noted that Stanford and Northwestern have been at the top of his list for that very reason. The corner back was also the first recruit to commit to the 2024 recruiting class for Stanford. However, it seems as though the recruit is likely to head in a different direction now after reopening his recruitment officially.
Can Wisconsin Land a Talented Recruit In Jamir Benjamin?
The five foot ten inch, 170 pound corner back is looking for the right fit more than anything else. Benjamin wants to land with a program that can provide more for him than just playing time. Under Luke Fickell and the new coaching staff, Benjamin will not just receive the right coaching but also the right guidance. Fickell is eager to build a culture around developing as individuals and players.
Landing Jamir Benjamin could be a tough task given his relationship with Michigan, Michigan State, and Northwestern. However, the advantage that the Wisconsin Badgers have over other programs is space. Wisconsin currently has nine corner backs on the roster, but does not have any hard commitments at the position.
Michigan State currently has two other commitments and Pittsburgh has one as well. With opposing schools already filling up their rooms, the Badgers might be the best option for development. Wisconsin will not only provide a place for Benjamin to play rather early, but also somewhere for him to blossom as an individual.
