The Wisconsin Badgers football staff has been intrigued by a certain 2024 four-star defensive lineman from Connecticut. Benedict Umeh from Avon Old Farms has been making his list of official visits for the upcoming season, and Wisconsin has been a program of interest. The Badgers have pushed hard to secure a visit from Umeh, but it might be a harder fight than they thought.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Eyeing 2024 Four-Star Benedict Umeh
Benedict Umeh is a four-star defensive lineman from Avon Old Farms in Avon, Connecticut. Umeh is currently ranked as the top player in the state and the 17th overall defensive lineman in his class. Umeh has also appeared on the National list, slotting himself in at 134th overall. The talented lineman is one of the most heavily recruited prospects in college football, with 38 offers currently according to 247 Sports.
Umeh has held an offer from the Wisconsin Badgers football team since November of last year. Wisconsin has been one of the longest standing offers for the lineman, but has yet to seriously recruit him. After Umeh just recently finished a visit with the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Badgers began to move to secure one as well. The Connecticut native could make his way to Madison before too long.
At six foot five inches, 260 pounds, Umeh is a physical force on the field and makes his presence known. At his size, Umeh also has an impressive burst of speed that allows him to make his way into the backfield often. His explosiveness takes many offenses off-guard and makes him a difficult opponent to play against. The talented lineman has only had one year of experience playing in the United States, as well. Umeh played at West Toronto Prep School for his first two high school seasons.
With a college decision looming next year, Umeh has begun his first round of visits after only meeting with a handful of schools thus far. The lineman has visited Harvard, UConn, Stanford, Penn State, and Bowling Green so far, according to Rivals. Umeh is one of the most recruited players in the 2024 class, but has yet to step foot on half of the schools he intends to. With his visit list starting to shape up, the Badgers will try to sneak in and claim a spot before they are all gone. Getting the talented lineman on campus is a great step in the right direction towards landing Umeh.
The four-star recruit has received a bulk of his offers after this past season, and intends to visit his new southern offers in the coming months. Umeh was in attendance for the Penn State Spring game and will likely attend a few more Spring games before the end of the shortened practice season. While Penn State may have been his most recent visit, they are also the team leading the chase for the recruit currently. The Nittany Lions hold the 11th overall recruiting class in 2024 and hope to add another star recruit soon.
For the Wisconsin Badgers football staff, on the other hand, Umeh has yet to meet with the majority of the staff. Umeh has been in contact with the new staff members recently, including coach Luke Fickell, but has yet to announce a visit date. Wisconsin will have to work hard to regain interest from one of their highest ranking prospects. Umeh would be a serious land for the Badgers, if they can convince him Madison should become his new home.
