The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team (17-14) lost a close game in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. Wisconsin Badgers fans did not take the loss lightly on social media. The Ohio State Buckeyes (14-18) proved to be too much for the Badgers, who struggled the majority of the game.

Wisconsin certainly had their chances in a tough game. Unfortunately, the offense slowed down in the first half, and the second half comeback was not enough to overtake the Buckeyes. The fate of the Wisconsin Badgers in the postseason will hang in the balance of the committee’s moving forward.

Wisconsin struggled in the first half and could not overcome the deficit that they created. After being down 36-18 at half, the Badgers ignited a second half run that proved to come up just short. The Badgers shot 34.4% from the floor and 18.2% from three point range against the Buckeyes. Following the game, Wisconsin Badgers fans were certainly displeased with the performance of the team.

The Wisconsin Badgers gotta be the worse shooting team in the country. Their shooting is atrocious!!!

While some fans were upset that the Badgers struggled from the floor, other fans were upset with the game plan and performance as a team. In the first half, Wisconsin could not make a basket in their biggest game of the year. The team seemed flat and could not find their rhythm or tempo until too late in the game to erase the point deficit.

Absolutely embarrassing performance thus far for the Wisconsin Badgers. Just seems like there's no heart and no shots around the rim. No reason they belong in the NCAA Tournament playing like this.

    — Indiana Schilz (@ISchilz) March 9, 2023

Other fans were quick to jump to conclusions about what the team may do next. Despite the underwhelming season for the Wisconsin Badgers, Greg Gard may keep his position as the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team. However, many fans are upset with his performance as the coach and the leadership he has displayed this season in particular.

Greg Gard told Andy Katz before the game he thought Wisconsin’s resume was good enough to make the tournament even with a loss to Ohio State. Must have been his message before the game

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team will have to wait to find out whether or not they have the status to put them into the NCAA tournament, or the NIT. Wisconsin has had flashes of tremendous basketball this season, and even in losses to Purdue and Kansas. Greg Gard seems confident enough in his team to advance to the postseason despite their recent struggles and early conference tournament exit.
