The Wisconsin Badgers have dropped the final game of the season to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, thus ending the massive 22-year bowl streak.
The Badgers entered the game with more at stake than usual, as the team needed one final win to secure both an even record and a bowl game. However, the Badgers were unable to do so which has in turn snapped the streak, making for quite a gloomy day in Madison. Following the loss, the loud boos could be hear through the microphone as opposing coach PJ Fleck gave his postgame speech.
Wisconsin fans began to leave the game half-way through the fourth-quarterback and the ones that stayed were extremely vocal. The Golden Gophers “chopped down” the Wisconsin goal post with Paul Bunyan’s Axe following the loss, which added to the tension in the stadium. Wisconsin now must go back to the drawing board as fans are livid, labelling the 2024 season as both a “disaster” and also the “worst season in recent history” for the Badgers.
Wisconsin Badgers Fans React to Broken Bowl Streak, Minnesota Golden Gophers Loss
Following the loss, social media was quickly filled with messages regarding the Wisconsin Badgers loss and what it might mean for the program. Coach Luke Fickell is someone who has received the brunt of the attacks especially after firing offensive coordinator Phil Longo and then displaying an arguably worse offense.
Wisconsin’s loss to Minnesota ends Badgers’ streak of 22 consecutive years in a bowl. Two of nation’s longest bowl streaks ended this year: Wisconsin & Oklahoma State (18 years)

I will never have to watch Braedyn Locke throw a football for the Wisconsin Badgers ever again pic.twitter.com/7kyDGwfgPt

The saddest thing is that this Minnesota team isn’t even that good, and they whipped the Badgers up and down the field all day. Credit to them, but that is the state of things for Wisconsin. Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska all beat down Bucky.

I’m sure this place ought to be rational and sane ending their season in November for the first time in every kid that’s currently an undergraduate at Wisconsin’s lifetime. Also first 5 game losing streak since Barry was hired. https://t.co/nb8PCUUAjL

There is nothing #Wisconsin does well. Absolutely nothing. Luke Fickell’s #Badgers team is a complete mess.#OnWisconsin

Luke Fickell brought the Wisconsin Badgers football program to its knees.
This program used to be a competitor in the B1G. Now? Bottom of the barrel with no identity.
Also, Mike Tressel is the biggest conman in college football.
Sad.

Season ticket holder 29 years, missed 5 home games in 29 years, and today was the most disappointing by far. Luke Fickell spent most of the game standing by himself – no assistants- no players- near him. That is not inspirational leadership, encouragement or reinforcing team spirit. The players themselves look dispirited and not cohesive. Change must come at the top.
I BLAME MCINTOSH AND FICKELL FOR THE STATE OF WISCONSIN FOOTBALL. THEY TOOK THE ‘MOJO’ OUT OF THE PROGRAM. LEONHARD AND CHRYST WERE WISCONSIN BORN AND BRED. THEY REPLACED THE WHOLE STAFF WITH DEFACTO “OHIO STATE” PEOPLE WHO WERE/ARE MERCENARY. THEY DOUBLED THE SALARIES OF THE COACHES AND DUMPED ALL OF THE WISCONSIN PEOPLE WHO BUILT AND SUSTAINED THE PROGRAM. EVEN WITH THE “NIL MONEY’ PLAYERS RECEIVED THEY COULDN’T REPLICATE THE DESIRE OF THE RECRUITS PAUL CHRYST GOT. THE RESULT IS THIS PROGRAM GOING 30 YEARS BACKWARDS. FIRE MCINTOSH, FIRE FICKELL AND HIRE LEONHARD AS HEAD COACH, CUT YOUR ECONOMIC LOSSES, OTHERWISE ITS GOING TO GET WORSE.
