The Wisconsin Badgers have begun to push for a talented three-star cornerback that could slide into the defense excellently.
Lawrence “Jay” Timmons, a three-star cornerback in the 2026 recruiting class, has become a recruit that the Wisconsin Badgers staff is intrigued by. Timmons is a dynamic cornerback that could arguably play a handful of different positions on the football field if needed. The Pennsylvania native is currently the 15th ranked recruit in the state, and the 22nd ranked cornerback in the 2026 recruiting class.
As the Wisconsin Badgers staff has proven in the past, the eyes of the team will be placed upon the under-the-radar gems in the class. Timmons is an accomplished player who is starting to see the recruiting process begin to take-off, which is why the Badgers have put forth effort to develop a close relationship with the recruit. The recruit has already visited Penn State and Michigan, and stated that he likes both programs “a lot” early on.
Timmons also considers the Florida State Seminoles a top program, and arguably his “dream” school due to his family ties to the school and area. However, Timmons did admit that he is beginning to enjoy states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin much more than before.
Currently, Timmons stated that the recruiting process has been “super fun” but also rather slow at times, however it has excited the recruit as of late. Timmons stated he has received heavy interest lately from Wisconsin, Penn State, Florida State, and Pitt. The recruit has also heard from schools like Michigan, Temple, West Virginia, and Akron among many others.
When it comes to recruiting, Timmons already has some idea of what the future program he commits to must have. Timmons stated, “I want it to feel like I am talking to one of my coaches at Pine Richland and for them to keep it real with me.” Timmons added that he is also in search of a program that will develop him “into the best possible me with school and football.”
What Would Lawrence Timmons Offer the Wisconsin Badgers, Another Program?
While the Wisconsin Badgers are just starting to become involved with the recruit, a clear connection between his play style and that of the defense is already clear.
On the field, Timmons is an absolute burner who is able to practically run circles around some opposing receivers in his highlights. In the dynamic defender also has an incredible ability to stop on the dot when needed, which comes in handy against other extremely fast receivers.
When asked about his game, Timmons stated, “My speed for sure separates me from others and apart from my speed my game instincts.” Timmons went on to state, “I feel like no matter where I am at I will make a play, no matter what position I am at.” The cornerback truly is not lying, as he can make some exceptional plays that seem like sure yardage gains for the offense at first glance.
With the Wisconsin Badgers in mind, Timmons would be an excellent fit into the defense as he could act like another Xavier Lucas. The Florida native has burst onto the scene for Wisconsin, and the elusive defender is often a play the offense forgets about until it is too late. Timmons can fill a very similar role within the Wisconsin defense due to both his speed and his ability to read a play before it occurs.
