The Northwestern University in women’s college basketball decided not to play their games in UCLA on January 12 and USC on January 15 and Wisconsin Badgers fans are now asking Greg Gard if their men’s basketball will push through with their road games.
The visit cancelation came amid the ongoing wildfires that devasted parts of California that left thousands of families homeless.
There currently two active wildfires – one in Palisades and Eaton – that continue to threaten households
Head coach Greg Gard said his staff and the Big Ten are already monitoring the situation.
The Badgers are set to play the USC Trojans this weekend and the UCLA Bruins on Tuesday.
“We’ve been in touch with the Big Ten office, and they’ve kept us up to date on everything out there right now,” Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said Monday.
“I know Iowa left yesterday for their game. I think they have (games on Tuesday) and Friday, and there’s been other games going on. … We’re watching it.”
Concerns are probably about appeal for sympathy.
As for the physical danger, the USC page reads:
“USC is not located near the existing wildfires and our USC campuses are not impacted by current evacuation orders.”
Greg Gard reacts to latest personal achievement
Badgers’ visit to Los Angeles comes at the heels of Greg Gard’s 200th win as Wisconsin coach.
The team is currently on a six-game winning streak as they try to continue their climb in the standings.
Gard credited his players for the accomplishment.
“My name goes with it, but I’ve had terrific players, the current ones and ones that have been here for the last nine years, terrific coaches with me,” he said after their win over Ohio State.
“I have a phenomenal staff right now, a support system. You divide this up. It’s a lot of hard work by a lot of people, a lot of hours go unseen and unnoticed to have an opportunity to help a program be successful.”
