The Wisconsin Badgers lost Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke in the transfer portal already this offseason. Wisconsin needed to find some quarterbacks in the portal to compete in the BIG10 Conference next season.
One player who had entered his name in the portal was former Maryland Terrapins quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. This past season with Maryland, he completed 65.0% of his passes for 2,881 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions this past season.
Billy Edwards Jr. Commits To the Wisconsin Badgers After Leaving Maryland
On Monday, the former Terrapins quarterback committed to the Badgers football program for the 2025 season. He was a junior this past season for Maryland and will be entering his senior year. To go along with his passing numbers from the 2024 season, he also rushed for 150 yards on 81 carries and five touchdowns, along with averaging 1.9 yards per carry.
With Billy Edwards Jr. entering the Badgers football program, he will need to be a serviceable quarterback for them. Wisconsin did not have serviceable quarterback play last season. Head coach Luke Fickell is under pressure to win some games in 2025.

Big get for the badgers. Love his footwork and arm strength. Going to be exciting to see how he develops with grimes and the future qb coach. Also wouldn’t mind him bringing over Roman Hemby😁. Let’s work @Billy_Edwards4

There are Badgers fans who are excited for his arrival and there are some Maryland Terrapins fans who are upset about his departure. Billy Edwards Jr. will compete for the starting quarterback job for the 2025 college football season. Hopefully this time around, a transfer portal quarterback will work for Luke Fickell. If it doesn’t work this time around, there is a chance that the Badgers have a new head coach for the 2026 college football season.
