The Wisconsin Badgers have been keeping close tabs on a great wide receiver in the 2027 class with brand new ties to the program.
Ayden Gonzalez, a 2027 wide receiver, has quickly become one of the top receivers on the board for the Wisconsin Badgers. Gonzalez is a Fort Myers, Florida native who attends Bishop Verot, a school that should sound very familiar to Badgers fans. Gonzalez is teammates with new Wisconsin quarterback commitment, 2205 four-star Carter Smith.
The talented wide receiver is rather new to the college football recruitment process, but has stated he “believes it will pick up after this year.” Gonzalez also added in regards to the recruitment process, “The college landscape is rapidly changing, so it is impacting high school recruiting.”
Currently, the wide receiver has mainly been in contact with Florida and Wisconsin, but he expects plenty more programs to join in shortly. Throughout the early portion of the recruitment process, Gonzalez stated he is looking for coaches that “build relationships and focus on player development.”
In addition to “player development” Gonzalez also noted that he is looking for “person development” as he wants a connection with the staff that goes beyond the field. Gonzalez stated that he is interested in coaches who want to “create value for a kid beyond football.” The final real key to the recruitment of Gonzalez involves a program having an “infectious” culture that desires winning games.
Gonzalez acknowledged that there are some programs whose offer would certainly mean a little bit more. The Florida native noted that an offer from the Miami Hurricanes would be his “dream” offer, while an offer from the Oregon Ducks would be equally as meaningful. However, Gonzalez also noted that he would be “grateful” to play for any program willing to “invest” in his potential.
What Could Ayden Gonzalez Add to the Wisconsin Badgers, Other Teams?
While the Wisconsin Badgers may have ties to Gonzalez and plenty of interest in the talented receiver, the team will have to fight to land the recruit moving forward.
Currently Gonzalez is not nearly as heavily recruited as he likely will be moving forward due to his ability on the field. The wide receiver has excellent speed, but feels his football IQ, hands, and precise route running are the keys allowing him to succeed. Gonzalez also noted, “I feel I have a competitive fire that is unmatched, especially between the white lines.”
Gonzalez is a smooth, intelligent receiver that consistently is able to find open space with his crisp route running. The wide receiver is also an accomplished player through the air, with many defenders struggling to force incompletions against Gonzalez. The 5-foot-10-inch, 165-pound receiver still has plenty of time to grow and add size, which should make for a seriously competitive receiver at the collegiate level.
The skilled athlete also has experience playing defense as a cornerback, which could serve as added value in his recruitment moving forward.
