The Wisconsin Badgers are still on a high following their huge 92-82 triumph over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday at home at Kohl Center in Madison.
One of the key reasons for Wisconsin basketball’s win over Ohio State was Portland Pilots transfer Austin Rapp, who made it rain on offense in the first half.
Rapp scored all his 19 points in the game in the first half, and he did it after coming off the bench.
It was quite a performance that only a few saw coming. Rapp, who was formerly a West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, entered the Buckeyes game having not scored more than six points in six of his previous eight appearances, went off against Ohio State, giving his team a huge lift.
Ohio State got torched by Rapp’s sweet shooting
All told, Rapp shot 7/10 from the field and went 5/7 from behind the arc against the Buckeyes.
After the game, Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler opened up about unfortunately getting victimized by a seemingly overdue Rapp eruption.
“When you write scouting, and you see a player who’s not shooting at the level they’re capable of over a certain stretch, my mentality is ‘don’t be the game where they get it going,’” Diebler said after the game (via Evan Flood of 247Sports). “He got it going.”
Meanwhile, John Blackwell top-scored for Wisconsin with 22 points on 8/13 shooting, while Nick Boyd put up 21 points on 6/15 shooting from the field and 8/8 from the free-throw line.
Rapp can go for a heat check on Saturday against the Indiana Hoosiers at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
