Wisconsin Badger women’s volleyball team ends their spring season with a 2-1 record. Their matches came against in-state rival Marquette, Athletes Unlimited and conference foe, Purdue. The spring season allows for transfer portal players to workout and compete with their new teams. This opportunity will increase the quality of volleyball at the beginning of the fall season and beyond. For the Badgers, the spring season is about the individual players where the fall season is about the team. Coach Kelly Sheffield breaks that down here:
Head Coach Kelly Sheffield popped in with MasterCoaches Weekly Buzz discussing the spring season, the match against Athletes Unlimited, and the importance of continuing to grow the game of volleyball.

Wisconsin Sweeps Marquette
The Badger women’s first game was against in-state rival Marquette. The ladies made quick work of the Golden Eagles defeating them 25-17, 25-13 and 25-14. Wisconsin beat Marquette at the Field House early in the 2022 season on a night when they had their 2021 championship ceremony. What’s next for this matchup?
These two teams will square off on September 13th in Milwaukee at Fiserv Forum. This will be the first Division I volleyball match played at Fiserv Forum. Wisconsin and Florida’s NCAA regular season attendance record is 16,833. It would be hard to image that number won’t be topped with Fiserv Forum holding a minimum of 17,385. Tickets for this game will go on sale this summer.
Wisconsin Falls to Athletes Unlimited
The Badger women played Athletes Unlimited in their second match this spring. Athletes Unlimited is a group of athletes who play and train professionally. They defeated the Badgers 3-1 with scores of 21-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 20-25. Wisconsin competing in this match proves time and time again that the Badgers have one of the premier programs in the country.
This game was a homecoming for Athletes Unlimited setter, Sydney Hilley. Hilley played for the Badgers and was a big reason for the team winning the NCAA tournament in 2021.

Wisconsin defeats Purdue
The spring season concluded with a match against conference foe, Purdue. The Badgers walked away from the match winning 3-1 with scores of 17-25, 25-15, 25-13 and 25-20. During the match, newcomer Carter Booth showed why she was a highly sought after transfer.

While the spring season concluded it was also bittersweet for some. Liz Gregorski played her final match in a Badgers uniform. Gregorski will be playing elsewhere next year as a grad transfer. Best of luck to her and other Badgers who elected to move on to new teams.
