It’s hard to believe but Wisconsin football is only a few short months away. We won’t hear much until August when fall camp opens. The 2023 schedule appears to be a favorable one. No win is a guarantee, but there are three games that stick out to me as Wisconsin’s most difficult games on the schedule.
At Minnesota (November 25)

The rivalry game is always circled for Wisconsin and Minnesota. After a 23-16 loss at home last season, Wisconsin has lost the last two games to Minnesota. In 2021, the Badgers had a chance to clinch the Big Ten West with a win in Minneapolis. Instead, a poor second half resulted in a 23-13 loss. You better believe Wisconsin is hungry to get the Ax back to Madison.
I’m not a P.J. Fleck fan, but he’s been successful against Wisconsin since coming to Minnesota. There’s no doubt he sees this game as the biggest on the schedule and he gets his players to buy into it too. However, the Golden Gophers lost a ton of players on both sides of the ball. We will see where they are at come November 25, but they will be ready regardless what their record is. It’s going to be a tough battle on the road, but it’s a game the Badgers should win.
Iowa (October 14)

Iowa is always a slug-fest with little points scored. I think this game in Madison will be a slug-fest but with a lot more points being scored. While Iowa and Wisconsin both have very good defenses, they’ve added some weapons on the offensive side of the ball.
This is a trophy game the Badgers lost last season 24-10 . It’s another game I know they want back. I also think the winner of this game will represent the West in the Big Ten Championship game. Cade McNamara is a better quarterback than Spencer Petras was, The additions of Erick All and Kaleb Brown are huge for this program as well. Iowa is going to be a battle and it won’t be easy despite this being a home game
Ohio State (October 28)

Anytime Ohio State is on your schedule, its the toughest game. Wisconsin has not beaten the Buckeyes since 2010 under the lights at Camp Randall. Every year they lose a ton of talent, but have just as much in the wings and ready to contribute.
I’m not going to say the Badgers will beat Ohio State. However, if this team can play the way they are capable of, I think they can go toe to toe with the Buckeyes at home. Recently, Wisconsin lost 52-21 in Columbus last season in a game that was over by the end of the first quarter. This is also the only game the Badgers are not favored in.
