Willy Adames is the top available shortstop in this year’s free agent market. However, he reportedly is willing to switch positions if he signs with a contending team. Recently, Jon Morosi reported that the former Milwaukee Brewers slugger is receiving interest from one American League West contender in which there may be an opening for him at third base.
The Houston Astros are interested in Willy Adames if Alex Bregman does not resign
Per Jon Morosi, there is interest on the Houston Astros end in potentially signing Willy Adames to play third base. Jon Morosi specifically mentioned this as a backup plan should Alex Bregman not resign with them. Alex Bregam has spent his entire nine year career with Astros, has won the World Series twice, is a two time All-Star, gold glove award winner, and silver slugger winner.
“I would love that infield”
During a MLB Network segment, Jon Morosi said he would love an Astros infield consisting of Willy Adames at third base, Jeremy Pena at shortstop, and Jose Altuve at second base. According to Baseball Savant, Adames graded out higher in both range and arm strength than Pena this year, but Fangraphs graded Pena better in DRS than Adames (+7 compared to -16).
