The Milwaukee Bucks have had a very interesting offseason up to this point and there is a large decision looming for Khris Middleton. Middleton has a player option for the 2023-2024 NBA season. If he decides to pick up the player option, it has to be done by Wednesday, June 21.
If it is picked up, the guaranteed money is worth over $40 million. Khris Middleton would most likely pick it up, but you never know. He is 31 years old and a pivotal part of this basketball team. If Middleton doesn’t pick it up, he will be testing the free-agent market and is free to sign anywhere this offseason.
The core of the Milwaukee Bucks moving forward would then be Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jrue Holiday, and Khris Middleton. However, since June 21 is before the NBA Draft, which takes place on June 22, would the Bucks be willing to do a Middleton for Bradley Beal swap with the Washington Wizards?
All Washington would have to worry about is having Middleton for one season rather than Bradley Beal for the next few seasons. Beal is 29 years old and would maybe be a better fit for the Milwaukee Bucks at this current point in time with Jrue Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo. It is something to think about in the Milwaukee front office if Khris Middleton picks up his player option.
Middleton averaged 15.1 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 4.9 APG in 33 games. The Milwaukee Bucks hope they can keep him for the long term and there are reports out there that the Milwaukee Bucks are looking to sign him to a long-term contract after all.
It was a thought that would maybe shake up the roster a little bit after flaming out in the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Miami Heat. However, first-year head coach Adrian Griffin will want the same roster to work with, If for some reason Khris Middleton does not pick up his player option, then there will be a team that pays for his services and they will have to figure out how to fill that hole next.
