The WIAA Football Playoffs are almost half over. Only 56 teams remain in the entire state. Winners will head to the state semi-finals next week. Here are five games to keep an eye on Friday night.
WIAA Football Playoffs: Mukwonago at Muskego
Something will have to give between these two powerhouses in WIAA Football Playoffs division one. Both teams scored 56 points in level one and 42 points last week in level two. The defenses have been great as well. Mukwonago has only given up seven points in this postseason. Muskego has given up 18 points. Both teams have been one of the best teams in the state consistently all season. I have no doubt this will be a great game.
Kaukauna at Homestead
I love this matchup in WIAA Football Playoffs division two. Kaukauna is the six seed in this pod while Homestead is the five seed. Homestead has been a division 2 powerhouse with six WIAA Football Playoffs state titles. This year, they have won with defense. They have only allowed 14 points through the first two rounds.
Kaukauna has defeated the number two and three seeds in this playoff run. They have scored 80 points in doing so. The Galloping Ghosts play in one of the best conferences in the state in the FVA. They play playoff teams every week so they have been prepared for this all season. This should be a fun game to follow.
WIAA Football Playoffs: Freedom at Little Chute
Freedom and Little Chute are rivals in the Northeastern Conference. The schools are separated by less than 10 miles. These teams have been successful in the WIAA Football Playoffs, but with two different styles. Little Chute has won with defense and Freedom has been winning with offense.
Freedom has scored 84 points in two weeks while the Mustangs have only allowed 17 points. Freedom has a ton of momentum so it will be interesting to see if they carry that on the road against Little Chute
St Mary’s Springs at Coleman
This battle between the Ledgers and Cougars has defense written all over it. Defense tends to travel in the postseason as well. Coleman has outscored their opponents 108-14 in the playoffs. Spring has allowed only 12 points in the WIAA Football Playoffs.
Coleman was the runner-up in division 7 last season while Springs was the division 6 runner-up. Both teams are eager to get back to Madison. Something will have to give between these two great teams. I don’t expect a ton of points to be scored in Coleman.
Edgar at Regis
This is another classic battle between two great programs. Edgar certainly always seems to be in the division 7 state title game. They also have seven state titles to prove it as well. Regis is seen as a heavy favorite in this WIAA Football Playoffs division and has been all season.
Points are always tough against Edgar and they seem to be rare. However, if any team has a chance to expose them, it could be the Ramblers. I don’t expect a lot of points scored in this game either. However, it will be one of the best games in the state Friday night.
