Charles Woodson recently came under fire for saying that the Packers should trade Aaron Rodgers. The comment came during a Good Morning Football interview on Tuesday in which Woodson was asked what he thought the future held for his former teammate. Woodson faced backlash after his comments from a large, die-hard group of Rodgers fans who like to deal in absolutes. The problem with dealing in absolutes is that the world consists of shades of grey. Despite what this group of fans may say, it is possible for a person to be a fan of both Aaron Rodgers and the Packers organization. This can also be true while advocating for Rodgers to be traded.
What Woodson Said
It is important to take Charles Woodson’s comments in the proper context. Most fans just saw the headline and started going on the attack. Charles actually said, “as a fan, and someone who has played for the Packers, I want to see Aaron Rodgers back (with the Packers).” Woodson went on to say, “but if I’m putting on my GM hat, I’m thinking about trading Aaron Rodgers.” This seems like an innocuous enough statement, and not something that Woodson should be vilified for. Many fans disagreed however and started coming after Charles. The general thinking was that his statements were made from spite stemming from Rodgers’ comments about the best teammates he had played with.

Woodson Respects The Pack
It is hard to believe that Charles Woodson would be that petty. Aaron Rodgers’ comment was mostly complimentary. Charles has defended Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on numerous occasions. Woodson has also credited Ted Thompson and the Packers organization for helping revitalize his career. This revitalization is ultimately what got him into the Hall of Fame. Charles played his best football with the Green Bay Packers. He won a Lombardi Trophy with the Packers, and will be forever grateful for that. Woodson is one of the best athletes to ever play the game, and he has too much integrity to react harshly to what Rodgers said about Davante Adams.
Why It Matters

Charles Woodson is arguably the best DB to ever play in the NFL. His stats speak for themselves. He was a hybrid player in a time when most people didn’t know what that meant. Woodson is one of only 3 players to have won the Heisman Trophy, a National Championship, and a Super Bowl in their careers. Charles also stacked DPOY on top of his accolades in 2009. Woodson flat out KNOWS football. Charles is a fan of both Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. When thinking about what is best for the Packers, he concluded that trading Rodgers might be the best course of action.
The Best Way Forward?
Charles Woodson’s opinion is one that is shared by a decent number of Packers fans. It is important for them to know that it is alright to feel this way. They shouldn’t let the “good vibes only” crowd and hardcore Rodgers stans make them feel like traitors. However, it is also important to acknowledge Rodgers’ incredible accomplishments in Green Bay. Regardless of how you feel about the 4-time MVP off the field, it’s hard to argue that Rodgers is not the most gifted QB on it.
Unfortunately it just isn’t working for Aaron in the playoffs in Green Bay anymore. Maybe a change of scenery can fix that for him. If the Packers can get some premium draft picks and Rodgers gets to hit the reset button, it just might be the best option for all parties involved. If Charles Woodson believes it, its probably not that far-fetched.
