Rasul Douglas is back in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The free-agent CB signed a three-year, $21 million deal to remain with the Packers. This solidifies Green Bay’s top three corner backs for the 2022 season. Once Jaire Alexander is re-signed it will be the top three corner backs for the foreseeable future. Even with Darnell Savage’s rough 2021 season, Adrian Amos continues to be one of the best safeties in the NFL.
CB1: Jaire Alexander
PFF’s Highest graded Cornerbacks since 2020:
- Jaire Alexander: 90.6
- Jalen Ramsey: 87.2
- Xavien Howard: 84.0
- KC Charvarius Ward 49.8
- NE J.C. Jackson 51.7
- LV Casey Hayward 52.3
- GB Jaire Alexander 53.8
No matter which way you slice is Jaire Alexander has been one of the best CBs in the NFL since he was drafted.
CB 2/3: Eric Stokes:
- Gave up 5th lowest completion percentage despite one of the most targeted corners in the league (via Sports Info and Solutions)
- Led rookies in pass breakups (PFF)
- Led rookies in forced incompletions (PFF)
He was asked to come in and play CB1 essentially all of 2021 and excelled doing it. AS A ROOKIE. This kid being asked to play CB 2/3 for his sophomore season should be more than doable.
CB 2/3: Rasul Douglas:
Free Safety: Adrian Amos
Strong Safety: Darnell Savage
Darnell Savage is the one inconsistent component of the secondary that we want to see improve in 2022. Savage took a step back in 2021 and was less consistent. Although he played in all 17 games in 2021, he made 12 fewer tackles, two fewer interceptions, broke up three fewer passes and one fewer tackle for loss than 2020. Opposing quarterback also had more success throwing to receivers covered by Savage. They completed 64.9 percent of their passes and had a quarterback rating of 117.4, up from just 67.3 the previous season.
If Darnell Savage can turn 2022 into his 2019-2020 seasons, this defense can be scary good. Either way, top to bottom no NFL team can match this secondary. From CB1 to CB3 and both safeties, even with Savage’s struggles in 2021? No one beats out Green Bay’s depth, talent, or experience.
