If you frequent #PackersTwitter, I am sure you have heard of Aaron Nagler. I am also sure that if you have heard of him, you have an opinion of him one way or another. However, no matter your opinion, his statement below is 100% factual. Davante Adams is on a Hall of Fame career path and the Green Bay Packers hold all the cards.
NFL fans have to stop thinking Davante Adams is going to hit the open market. MAYBE the Packers tag & trade him – maybe. Most likely? They tag him then get a deal done. He's on a HOF path. No way on God's Green & Gold Earth do they just let him walk.

How do the Packers hold all the cards?
Per Ian Rapoport, Green Bay is expected to place the franchise tag on Adams. While a set price for the exclusive tag isn’t official, it’s projected to be for at least $20 million guaranteed. If there is one unspoken rule in the NFL, it’s that you don’t franchise tag the best player in the game at their position. Green Bay would only be franchise tagging Adams for the purpose of keeping him in house and getting the long term deal done.

Either way, what this tells us is that Davante Adams will be in a Green Bay Packers uniform for the 2022 season. There is no way they let him walk. However, the long term deal is the big question mark. Aaron Rodgers’ situation plays a role in Davante’s contract talks as well. As soon as we find out what Rodgers is doing and how the front office can restructure his contract, we will find out how they can sign Adams.
The window opens:
Starting tomorrow and until March 8, teams can apply the franchise or transition tag on a player with an expiring contract.
7 players were tagged last offseason. Davante Adams, Jessie Bates and Orlando Brown are among the candidates for it this year.

From February 22nd until March 8th, Green Bay can apply this franchise tag on Adams and officially not worry about where he will play in 2022. We will see if this or a long term contract happens first.
