In case you missed it, Willy Adames had himself quite the game Wednesday night against the Pirates, ending the night with 7 RBI, 4 hits, and 2 homers to help the Brewers secure an impressive win over the Pirates. The night was quite the statement from the shortstop.

So Who’s Next?
While baseball is a team game, the difference between winning and losing often comes from one player having a great (or terrible) game. Today, let’s look ahead to the positive side- who’s going to be the next Brewer to have the game of their life? It could happen tomorrow, or it could be months away- either way, here are my top 3 guesses for who it’ll be.
Tyrone Taylor
After an electric spring training, Taylor has been relatively quiet to start the regular season. He’s started 11 games so far and is batting a rather lackluster .195 with 8 hits and 4 RBI. With an abundance of talent in the outfield, Taylor hasn’t seen as consistent of a starting role as many hoped after spring training. A statement game like Adames on 4/26 would certainly provide a strong argument for him getting more starts– but would it be enough? I digress. After last year and spring training, we know Taylor has the power. It’s only a matter of time until the needle fits back into the groove and he goes off.
Hunter Renfroe
Renfroe has been on the more consistent side of things for the team so far this season. Granted, with the Brewers’ offense in the shape it is right now, that’s not automatically a huge accomplishment. He’s hit two home runs in a Brewers’ uniform to date, which puts him on pace to hit about half as many homers as he did last season. I’m writing off his start as a result of the switch to a new team and a shortened spring training and bet we’ll see an uptick in productivity once he finishes settling in and finds his groove.
Kolten Wong
Defensively, Wong has been making a major impact for the Crew this season. Offensively, however… well, that’s a different story. With a .209 batting average, he’s definitely not the worst bat on the Brewers this year so far! However, he’s far from the strategic powerhouse we came to rely on behind the plate last season. Like with Renfroe, I’m going to credit at least some of that to the shortened spring training and the transition to new hitting coaches.
Taylor, Renfroe, and Wong are all having good seasons- they don’t need to have a breakout, though the Brewers can always use more offensive consistency. It would be fun to see one of these three, or anyone on the team, have themselves a crazy game- maybe even one that launches an MVP campaign. Hopefully, I find myself in the stands that day. Ideally, the team as a whole improves on offense and we don’t need anyone in particular to have a statement game. But that’s not how baseball works, so who’s up next?
