The Packers needed to do more in Week 9
The Green Bay Packers were a few plays away from winning their Week 9 contest against the Detroit Lions. They come up short. The Packers are now losers of five straight games. The team battled multiple injuries as they gave the Lions all they could handle on the road. However, the Packers’ overall effort wasn’t enough to get a much-needed win. Here are the three top and bottom performers on each side of the ball for the Packers as rated by Pro Football Focus.
Packers offense
Top Performers
- Romeo Doubs: 88.4
- Elgton Jenkins: 78.2
- Zach Tom: 72.8
Doubs was the highest-rated Packers player on offense. The rookie wide receiver hauled in his lone target for 18 yards. Doubs was injured during the game and is now expected to miss several weeks.
Bottom Performers
- Sammy Watkins: 46.3
- Samori Toure: 48.1
- Tyler Davis 49.8
It’s just not a good sign for the Packers when their healthy wide receivers are the lowest-rated players on the field. Watkins caught just one of his five targets against the Lions. He was credited for dropping two passes. Toure caught two of his four targets. Toure’s fumble didn’t do him any favors for his overall grade.
Packers defense in Week 9
Top Performers
- Isaiah McDuffie: 91.1
- Rashan Gary: 88.4
- Rasul Douglas: 77.1
McDuffie made four tackles for the Packers against the Lions. Three of those tackles were rated as stops. McDuffie’s run defense was rated 90.3. He did well leading the defense against an explosive Lions offense. The defense held the Lions to 15 points, but the Packers’ offense couldn’t convert touchdowns in the red zone, leading to the loss. Gary, rated the second-best defender by PFF, was injured against the Lions and is out for the year.
Bottom Performers
- Krys Barnes: 28.8
- Kenny Clark: 32.8
- Keisean Nixon: 35.0
Barnes was activated from the injured reserve last week before the Lions game. He didn’t do much right for the Packers during his 25 snaps in Week 9. He recorded six tackles, two of them for stops. However, Barnes was awful in pass defense. Barnes gave up all three receptions that he was targeted on.
Aaron Rodgers in Week 9
Aaron Rodgers was rated 63 overall by PFF for his play against the Lions. Rodgers had a three-interception day on the road in Detroit. Two of those interceptions came in the red zone. Rodgers’ 53.3 percent completion percentage in Week 9 wouldn’t have helped the Packers win many games this season.
