The NFL continues to claim that the refs have no bias in their officiating. However, the evidence on the field suggests otherwise. This was evident in the Falcons-Bucs game on Sunday. With the Falcons staging a comeback, a sack on Tom Brady looked to give the Falcons the ball back. Until the refs intervened. Watch Tom Brady get a ridiculous roughing the passer call.
Tom Brady Gets Ridiculous Roughing The Passer Call
The “roughing the passer” just called in Tom Brady’s favor was the worst call of this young NFL season.

I have watched this video a thousand times trying to figure out if there is any inkling of a roughing the passer call. I can find nothing. This is amplified by the hit Tua Tagovailoa took last week that gave him a concussion. That hit was much more violent than this one. Brady’s head barely grazed the ground. It is absolutely unbelievable that the Falcons were flagged on this one. It essentially ruined any chance at a comeback and ended the game. If the NFL is trying to convince us that Brady does not get calls, this is a real poor way of doing it. Brady is just treated differently.
Player Safety Vs. Quality Of The Game
Look I am all for player safety. Players should not be unnecessarily taking shots on each other. Egregious tackles should get flagged especially on the quarterback. We as fans want to see the star quarterbacks, not their backups. The emphasis on player safety especially at the quarterback position is good for the quality of the league. However, this is an example of a call that goes too far. Brady is not in any danger here. The tackle is not any type of unusual tackling motion. It is a good clean hit. And it gets flagged. Why? Because it’s a quarterback but also because that quarterback is Tom Brady. There has to be a balance between player safety and overall quality of the game.
This is not a great look for the league. If this happened in the 3rd quarter when the Bucs were up by 27, then we all would gripe about it but move on. This call was a crucial, game changing call. The league is going to have to an answer on this call in my opinion. I doubt anything will change until Brady is out of the league. Tom Brady will keep getting roughing the passer calls until he officially retires and we all just have to live with it.
