New Wisconsin Badgers head coach Luke Fickell and new offensive coordinator Phil Longo have been working the recruiting trails hard. Their hard work paid off on December 17th. Four-star quarterback Nick Evers, who entered the transfer portal from Oklahoma, announced he has committed to Wisconsin for the 2023 season. This understandably drew attention from former Badgers around the country. Two of which who took notice were Russell Wilson and JJ Watt.
JJ Watt And Russell Wilson Are Stoked For Nick Evers
After the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals’ game this past weekend Watt and Wilson met at midfield. After exchanging good wishes for each other, the conversation turned to the Wisconsin Badgers. The first thing JJ Watt talked about was the new QB in Madison.
JJ Watt: “You see Wisconsin got a quarterback?
Russell Wilson: “Yeah! I saw that!”
JJ Watt: “I hope he’s good, I hope He’s like you!”

There is understandably a lot of excitement around Evers’ commitment. Nick Evers was recruited to Oklahoma out of Flower Mound High School in Texas. In two seasons as the varsity quarterback, Evers threw 40 touchdown passes and just 14 interceptions. He also rushed for 915 yards and 15 touchdowns between those two seasons.
According to cfbsaturdays.com, “Nick Evers has all of the tools to become a great college quarterback. He should only get better as he fills out and gains experience. Evers’ talent and poise will help him develop into a high end college quarterback who can be a starter for an upper echelon power five team.”
Wisconsin has already seen Graham Mertz leave via the transfer portal. Evers will join Myles Burkett in the Badgers quarterback room for 2023.
