When Luke Voit joined the Milwaukee Brewers on a minor league contract, he was given an opt-out clause. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that if Voit isn’t on the Brewers’ 40-man roster by Thursday March 16, he could opt out of his minor league deal and find another team to call home. If he ends up sealing a spot on the roster, he’ll have a base salary of $2M.
On Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel asked Voit about the opt-out and if he had any expectations on staying with the team.
“My job is to hit the ball hard and drive in runs.”
“Obviously everybody knows about the opt-out now.”

Voit expressed that he’d like to stay with the Brewers, as he’s been getting along with the team and hitting the ball pretty well.
“It’ll be better the sooner it happens…I feel like I’ve done everything I need to…” Voit told the media on Monday.
According to Sherman, Brewers manager Craig Counsell believes that Luke Voit will find his place on the 40-man roster. He quoted Counsell saying, “We have a decision to make there, but I think the good Luke Voit is absolutely going to find a [roster] spot.”
It really will be a time will tell kind of scenario, but the Brewers are running out of time. It would be in the Brewers best interest to keep Voit around because he’s a solid option in their lineup and offensive production was inconsistent for the Brewers last season.
