Giannis Antetokounmpo is beloved in Milwaukee
Milwaukee Bucks basketball star Giannis Antetokounmpo has been busy this week as the team’s camp just started. This season, he is trying to lead the Bucks back to the NBA Finals. Giannis has been in Milwaukee since the Bucks drafted him in 2013. He’s become a fan favorite and will be enshrined as a Bucks legend after he brought the Bucks their second NBA championship in 2021.
But Giannis might not be in Milwaukee forever. Recently, the 2021 MVP spoke to Frank Isola and Brian Scalabrine on Sirius XM Radio. He told the two radio hosts about his plans after playing in the NBA.
“When I retire from this game, I want to disappear, Giannis said. “I want to go somewhere where they will not know me. I went to Sweden two years ago; nobody knew me in Sweden.” Giannis went on to explain that he enjoyed eating hot dogs and sitting down on the street in peace in the Nordic country.
Giannis said he didn’t want to have the publicity after leaving the NBA that Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson have. He then said he wanted to keep a low profile like former NBA star Tim Duncan.
“I want to be like Tim Duncan. Where the hell is Tim Duncan,” Giannis asked. “Yes. Where is Tim Duncan? I don’t know where he is.”
“I want to be like Tim Duncan. Where the hell is Tim Duncan?!” 🤣😆

Giannis might never leave Wisconsin
Tim Duncan briefly returned to the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach. But he stepped down in 2020 and is expected to do more with the Spurs player development.
Giannis could still stay in Milwaukee for a long time after his NBA career. Giannis has a lovely home in River Hills, Wisconsin. And the geography makes sense for his lifestyle. It’s been obvious that Giannis doesn’t crave the limelight. He chose to stay with the Bucks instead of chasing big-city dreams. Many of his elite NBA peers chose to leave smaller market franchises once they were done with their rookie deals.
Giannis might come to find that he can retire in peace in a more recluse part of Wisconsin. But it appears Giannis doesn’t want to live the life of notoriety that many former athletes often crave.
