The Milwaukee Brewers improved to 77-67 on the season in their 7-6 victory against the New York Yankees on Friday night. The Yankees are visiting Milwaukee for the first time in eight seasons. With Aaron Judge chasing 61 home runs this season, the stands were packed with fans hoping to see a bit of history. The Yankees have all-but-run away with the AL East while the Brewers are hoping to overtake the San Diego Padres for the NL’s last Wild Card spot. While the Padres also won on Friday night, the Philadelphia Phillies lost. This means the Brewers still made up ground in the NL’s wild card race.
The Yankees Got Off to a Fast Start
It did not appear as if the Brewers would be in a position to win this game early on. Starting pitcher Adrian Houser struggled mightily through three innings. He gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, four walks, and one strikeout. While Judge did not homer in this game, he did come around to score twice in the game’s first two innings.
Willy Adames Gave the Brewers Life with a Record-Tying Home Run
While Aaron Judge is chasing Maris, Willy Adames has caught Robin Yount. The Brewers short stop tied the club record for home runs by a short stop with a three-run shot in the second inning.

Ironically, Adames tied Yount’s record on what turned out to be Yount’s 67th birthday. Adames is now hitting .230/.300/.469 with 29 home runs and 89 RBI on the season. According to Would It Dong? on Twitter, Adames’ shot would have been out in all 30 MLB parks.

Last night, Adames, Brent Suter, Andrew McCutchen, and Victor Caratini was wore #21 to honor the late Roberto Clemente.
For Roberto.

The Brewers Took the Lead in the Eighth
Thanks to a ground-rule double by Adames and a sacrifice fly by Rowdy Tellez, the Brewers had tied the game at five in the fourth inning. In the eighth inning, the Yankee’s defense allowed them to take the lead. Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the Yankees shortstop, booted a Willy Adames ground ball. Yelich got to second while Adames got to first base. Meanwhile, Keston Hiura scampered home to give the Brewers a 6-5 lead.
Unfortunately, the lead was not to last. Taylor Rogers, who was acquired as part of the Josh Hader trade, gave up a run in the ninth inning. Josh Donaldson, a former MVP, launched a solo home run off of Rogers. It was his ninth blown save of the season.
Garrett Mitchell Gives the Brewers a Walk-Off Win
Rookie center fielder Garrett Mitchell had been in some kind of slump. However, he was 2-4 in his first game against the New York Yankees. His second hit was the biggest of the night: a two-strike, two-out single with the bases loaded to give the Brewers the 7-6 win.
