Andrew McCutchen chose to sign with the Milwaukee Brewers prior to the start of the 2022 season. The former National League MVP joined the club for a modest one-year $8.5 million contract. Earlier today on the Flippin’ Bats Podcast with Ben Verlander, McCutchen revealed why he chose the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Two Reasons Andrew McCutchen Joined the Milwaukee Brewers

When asked why he chose to sign with the Milwaukee Brewers, Andrew McCutchen mentioned two specific things:

    • Winning
    • Not having to face Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, or Freddy Peralta

As McCutchen states, the Brewers have made the playoffs in each of the past four seasons. Clearly, the Brewers have established themselves as a team that is going to compete year in and year out. Perhaps in Mark Attanasio would open up his wallet a little more, other big-name players would be willing to come play for the Brewers as well.

The second reason he gave for signing with the Brewers was meant to be a joke, but does still ring true. Despite the injuries to Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta, the Brewers remain one of the best pitching teams in all of baseball. McCutchen also mentioned how dominant the back end of the bullpen is in Milwaukee. He joked, “You can almost just put your glove down when they come in.”

Andrew McCutchen mentioned returning to familiar territory in the NL Central as a reason why he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.

So far this season, Andrew McCutchen is hitting .233/.293/.327 with four home runs and 25 RBI with the Milwaukee Brewers. He has appeared in 51 games, 35 as DH and 16 as an outfielder. Earlier this season, McCutchen missed some time with COVID-19.

While a 1-40 slump earlier in the season really made his batting stats look bad, Andrew McCutchen has been having a much better June. So far this month, he is hitting .292/.382/.375 with a home run and eight RBI.
