Washington Commanders Quarterback Says He Would Love to Play for the Packers

Although it may seem like it, Aaron Rodgers is not the only NFL quarterback whose future is uncertain. The Washington Commanders have a decision to make in regard to Taylor Heinicke. Heinicke discussed his future with the Commanders on The Pat McAfee Show.

"Obviously I wanna be a starter next year but being a backup QB in the NFL is probably one of the best jobs in America"

    Washington Commanders Quarterback Situation

The Commanders are in an odd position when it comes to their quarterback. They traded for Carson Wentz last offseason and he carries a $26 million cap hit in 2023. Wentz lost his starting role to Taylor Heinicke during the 2022 season. Heinicke went 5-3-1 as a starter, but he also was benched. Sam Howell, the fifth-round pick from The University of North Carolina, started the final game for the Washington Commanders last season. He led them to a 26-6 win over the Cowboys.

As of right now, Howell is expected to compete for the starting job with Wentz. Heinicke is a free agent and expressed his desire to be a starter. On The Pat McAfee Show, he mentioned how he might be back in Washington.

Would Heinicke Make Sense for the Green Bay Packers?

Regardless of what Aaron Rodgers decides to do, the Packers might be looking to add a quarterback. If Rodgers retires then they will definitely need another quarterback. If he decides to return then there is a slight chance Green Bay could trade Love and then they would need another quarterback. Obviously, if Rodgers is traded they would need another quarterback.

If Jordan Love is the starter in 2023 the Packers could benefit from having a veteran backup. At the least, Heinicke would be healthy competition for Jordan Love. Additionally, if Love struggles, or is injured, having a guy like Heinicke would go a long way. Heinicke said the Packers were his childhood team so it would be a good match for both sides.
