Veteran Free Agent Wide Receiver Announces Return For 2023 Season

The Green Bay Packers may be in the market for a veteran wide receiver during the 2023 off-season.  With the seemingly imminent departure of Allen Lazard and the uncertainty of Randall Cobb’s future, the Packers may need some veteran leadership in the wide receiver room.  As it turns out, there may be one player the Packers could unexpectedly look at bringing in on a one-year deal.  Veteran wide receiver Cole Beasley said he wants to return to the NFL for the 2023 season.

Just a few short months ago veteran slot receiver Cole Beasley declared his NFL career was over.  Beasley announced his retirement in October 2022.  This came two weeks after signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Now, in February 2023, Beasley wants to keep playing.  The veteran wide receiver came out of retirement to play the final two games of the regular season and the playoffs with the Buffalo Bills.  He told reporters on Friday that he would like to play at least one more NFL season.

“At this point in my career, I’m still hungry and my body feels good,” he said, via Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News. “I still feel like I can do it and I can compete and play at a level that I’ve been playing at before this season. Obviously, I want to be somewhere that I can win, and I know that’s here, also. If that option is there, I would definitely do that.”

Beasley had two receptions for 18 yards during the regular season in Buffalo.  However, he emerged as a more consistent part of the Bills’ passing game during the playoffs, catching five passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.  Beasley mentioned he feels like he’s healthier than he has been in a long time.  Providing Aaron Rodgers or Jordan Love with a reliable veteran wide receiver could be extremely beneficial.  Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are clearly the future of the position in Green Bay, but a veteran who has been around a while can’t ever hurt.
